Waste Classification

Know your waste.
Load the right skip.

Different waste types require different handling. Mixing categories — especially hazardous materials into a general load — can mean a rejected delivery. Use this guide to check before you load.

Construction
Construction Rubble

Bricks, concrete, tiles, plaster, and general building rubble from renovations. Dense material — counts toward weight limits faster than it looks.

Garden
Garden Waste

Grass, branches, leaves, soil, and organic garden refuse from clearances. Wet green waste is heavier than dry — factor that into size choice.

General
General Waste

Household furniture, white goods, non-hazardous general household waste. Most common single-category load.

Heavy
Heavy Materials

Sand, earth, gravel, hardcore, and dense excavation materials. Strict weight limits apply — often filled well below the visible line.

Mixed
Mixed Residential

Combined household and light renovation waste — the most common skip load type for home projects.

Not Accepted

What can't go in a skip.

These materials need separate, licensed disposal — regardless of skip size. Ask the team if you're unsure where something falls.
Asbestos
Requires licensed removal and disposal. Call the team for a referral.
Paint & Chemicals
Wet paint, solvents, and chemical containers — take to a hazardous waste facility.
Gas Cylinders
Pressurised containers of any kind, including fire extinguishers.
Batteries
Car and household batteries — most retailers offer free drop-off recycling.
Fridges & Freezers
Contain refrigerant gas — need degassing before disposal. Ask us about collection.
Tyres
Not accepted in general skips. Most tyre fitters take old tyres on replacement.
Medical Waste
Sharps, clinical or biohazard waste — requires specialist disposal.
E-Waste
TVs, computers, and electronics — take to a certified e-waste recycler.

Not sure where something fits? Check with the team before your delivery — a rejected load on collection day costs more time than a quick call. Contact us and we'll advise.

FAQ

Waste questions.

Light mixing — general household waste with some renovation debris — is usually fine. Heavy materials like rubble or soil should ideally go in their own skip due to weight limits, and hazardous items can never be mixed in.

Call the team as soon as you notice — we'll advise on safe removal before collection. Loads found with prohibited items on collection may be delayed or incur an additional handling charge.

Yes — waste is sorted at a licensed facility, and recyclable material is separated out before the remainder goes to landfill. See the About page for more on our disposal process.

Weight, not just volume, determines the right size for heavy loads. The Skip Selector accounts for this when it recommends a size — worth using if your load includes rubble, soil or hardcore.
